“There’s the truth…and, the truth!”

Anyone who missed our "Mayor's Message" can watch the video online at Robbers here:

The mayor did say that 2010 would be "a year for change", and on that I couldn't agree with her more.
But that would be the only thing I would agree with Her Worship on while watching this senseless display of self absorbed spin.
It reminded me closely of the scene in The Simpsons where Lionel Hutz, an inept lawyer and part-time Realtor, is coaching Marge Simpson on the art of selling:

"There's the truth" (shakes head) "…and, the truth!" (nods and smiles)

The mayor starts of with a shout out to the environmental advisory committee.  Something she holds dear to her hart as she helped create it and no doubt appoint her friend Susan Walmer to.  She then goes on to say that the last green space in Aurora will "undergo some development".  Wow, developing the last green space, great advise you supposed "stewards of the environment". How hipocritcal.

On the issue of downtown revitalization she says instead of "doing something" they have been in the planning stage.  A convenient excuse for not doing what was set out in the 2006 strategic plan.  Why wasn't this planing started back in 2006?

The Mayor also seems to have little love loss for Magna.  When asked about the plant closures she simply said "for the people that lose their jobs devastating"  but quickly adds "we have other jobs, other industries".  A lot of good it does to the people affected by Magna.  She spins the question and thus avoids answering it.

When asked about the integrity commissioner she interestingly says that the integrity commissioner (that they hired) had a different process to the one they laid out.  That he didn't rule on the complaint against councilor Buck, and that they intend to pursue it further.  David Nitkin ruled on the complaint,  he said it was "ill-informed, incomplete,  inappropriate, and wholly political".  He is head of Ethiscan Canada.  How is it that you couldn't work together though a common process?  Is it possibly that the process drafted by the town was "ill-informed, incomplete,  inappropriate, and wholly political" ?

Eudora Welty summed it up best when she said:

“Integrity can be neither lost nor concealed nor faked nor quenched nor artificially come by nor outlived, nor, I believe, in the long run, denied”

Her Worship obviously believes the complete opposite and we can all be sure that this is one area in 2010 where there will be no change.

Watts on your mind?
