During the Jan 26th council meeting the mayor breaks into a pre-campaign speech at around 1:46:33“we had a code of ethics, I’m proud to say that I’m the person that brought it forth to the community” What else has Phyllis brought to the council chamber? Dysfunction, Ignorance, Hate, Bullying and the absence of professional experience in any of the areas requisite to running a town. Proposing a code of ethics is one thing, but to act in direct opposition to it shows little respect for our town, or even herself. Nobel Prize winner Alexander Solzhenitsyn said: “Even the most rational approach to ethics is defenseless if there isn’t the will to do what is right” Phyllis goes on: “the law has changed! the rules have changed, time moves fast in politics, blogs have occurred, letters to the editor have always been there but there’s always been a respect around the table and when people had issues they would debate them at the table they didn’t use the local paper to carry on the debate they accepted the decision of the majority. We knew you wanted a change, that’s what you elected” What we wanted was a council that functioned, an a council that could work together and a council that was led by character not a controlling psycho beast. Albert Schweitzer another Nobel prize winner said: “The first step in the evolution of ethics is a sense of solidarity with other human beings.” Phyllis has proven that she is incapable of functioning in a team trying to achieve a common goal, unless that goal is promoting herself. At 01: 53:16 she adds: “We are trying to raise the bar on a code of conduct and decorum” “I stand by the decisions this council makes, they make their decisions independantly, they are not a block, they think independantly and they are very ethical people.” And that folks is what we are left with, a council that refuses to compromise, and with that fails to govern us effectively. An ethical person ought to do more than he’s required to do and less than he’s allowed to do. There are members of council with ethics, but they are in the minority and this needs to change in October.
