Accolades and Ass-hats – June 22nd 2010

Accolades

     Accolade

To William Hastings for taking the time to write into the Aurora framing the Train Whistle issue by pointing out that anyone younger than 157 should have known about the train whistle when they bought their house.

Unfortunately I have no answer to Mr Hasting’s question ” Why does the world need to change to accommodate myopic people?” and wonder why so many of them live here in Aurora.

Asshat

       Ass-hat

To Phyllis Mahon who wrote a whiny letter to the Auroran in which says she will be very happy to move so she doesn’t have to be woken up by the train whistles.

To which I say the next train leaves in …oh wait I don’t have a schedule, tell you what one will be along shortly why don’t you just listen for the next whistle.

Accolades

To Vaughan Dues for also commenting in this weeks Auroran on the absurdity of replacing one safety measure with another and pointing out the reason behind these whiny complainers : to sleep in, not improve public safety.

Asshat

       Ass-hat

To M. Chisholm for prompting the town to begin this whole anti-whistle process.

We need an anti-whiner process to stop people who want to remove safety precautions simply because they don’t “enjoy” the train whistle.

Here’s something to think about, no one said you have to “enjoy” the train whistle, in fact if it’s that much of a problem why not take Phyllis Mahon’s lead and move?

Accolades

     Accolade

To Peter Storms for pointing out the true safety ramifications for banning the train whistles in his letter to the Auroran.

I too do not want engineers having the confusion of determining every day where they must blow their whistles because it is the law and where they must not blow their whistles because it is the law because of the complaints of a very few at the expense of the safety of thousands.

Asshat

       Ass-hat

To LSAC, especially Councilor’s MacHeckron & Granger and also whoever Judy Norwell is, for seconding Granger’s motion to not allow public washrooms at public parks.

Piss off!

Accolades

     Accolade

To CN , GO Transit and any private train engineers for the slight but noticeable increase in number and duration of train whistles.

I’m not sure if it’s intentional or not but I like it.

They are indeed a poignant reminder of how this nation was tied together….oh and then there’s that safety thing too.

  1. Couldn’t agree more with your ass-hats on this one. Reading the letters in The Auroran infuriated me and made me wonder if I am living in a town of idiots. I can’t believe people would want to sacrifice public safety for their own selfish comfort. They shouldn’t have bought a house near the train tracks (although I can hear them at the far west end of Aurora and they don’t bug me, but then again I grew up on Air Bases where we ate our Shreddies to the sound of fighter jets flying over every morning). I hope the train engineers veto this and blow their whistles more.

  2. Lets not forget that all the whiners that consciously chose to buy their house where they did also received a financial off-set in their price point because of the proximity to the train.

    Talk about sucking and blowing!

Watts on your mind?
