cock block you like the Hurricanes

What is going on up in Newmarket?

Since the town agreed to a $2.8 million soccer bail-out it looks like other sporting
outfits like hockey are feeling a little left out.

The Error Banner reported that The Newmarket Hurricanes are now kicking Rogers TV to the curb because it hurts their bottom line:

You would think that those closest to the eye of a hurricane wouldn’t be so blind, but Anthony Cella and Tony Comparella’s approach seems to suggest otherwise.

How exactly do they expect to re-establish a relationship with their community by restricting access?

If live broadcasting has such a great impact on sales where are the metrics that support this claim?

Perhaps because there aren’t any.

If there were how could the Aurora Tigers, among other OJHL clubs, afford to live
broadcast their games if it is as devastating as these owners claim?

As for providing content for nothing, are Cella and Comparella suggesting that
Newmarket council should follow suit and drop Rogers coverage in an attempt to increase engagement?

Where is the recognition by these owners of the impact that live video offers to the club with respect to exposure, one that obviously is without the resources to provide a similar service.

It is hard to determine if the issue is the loss of ad revenue, loss of fans in seats,
relationship building or branding. Regardless if these new owners were seriously concerned about any one of these they would be looking at any and all opportunities to increase exposure not restrict it.

Alienating your fan base by telling them to pay or Puck Off is a short sighted strategy. Of course when it blows up in their face I suppose they can always go to town hall and file for their bail out.

Way to keep your stick on the ice.

Watts on your mind?
