The Regional Municipality of York has published its Spring/Summer York Works newsletter with delivery to more than 350,000 homes and businesses starting today as posted on the Town of Aurora’s website here: http://www.town.aurora.on.ca/app/wa/mediaEntry?mediaEntryId=62847
This is the same region that wants residents to conserve and divert waste while farting out grandiose terms like "innovation" and "sustainability".
Why would York Region blanket more than 350,000 homes and businesses with paper when in 2014 we have this thing called the internet.
Phonebooks have been largely phased out, paperless billing is the norm. Wouldn’t it be easier to circulate something like a newsletter electronically and then do an opt-in for those that require a paper copy?
2012 figures for paper consumption provided by Stats Canada show that North Americans still consume more paper per capita (upwards of 500 lbs. annually) than anyone else on earth: http://www.forestethics.org/paper-the-facts
If the Region is all to happy to spray their paper waste on us they should at least provide the ability for its residents to turn their communications into the only white paper the Region seems to take seriously when discussing matters concerning the environment: http://inventorspot.com/articles/office_paper_recycler_turns_trash_toilet_paper_28683
