For the past 16 years, the Aurora Mayor’s Charity Golf Classic has been held out of town at Silver Lakes in East Gwillimbury.
Somehow none of the golf courses in Aurora, including the recently closed Highland Gate Golf Club, St. Andrews Valley, Magna, Lebovic, or Westview were appropriate for holding such an event and all lost out on years of business.
If there was any fear of perceived favouritism the event could easily be rotated around the courses in town.
This year we learn that the committee decided it was time for a change, but instead of bringing it home to Aurora the event was moved to the King’s Riding Golf Club in King Township:
In 2016 Mayor Dawe and council endorsed a Sport Plan, which included a strategic goal of supporting Sport Tourism:
What message is Mayor Dawe sending to the town’s sports and business community if he won’t even hold a golf tournament in Aurora?
